Walk It Out

A huge part of making healthier decisions is physical activity level.  One easy and almost negligable change that you can make in your life right now is increased walking.  Getting up every 15 minutes to 45 minutes to go for a 5 minute walk throughout your day is a great way to get started.  So try this out today, see if you can set an alarm on your watch or phone for every 15 minutes to remind you to get up and walk!

  1. Walking to and from classes every day can seem like a hassle, especially when it's 17 degrees. It's easy to forget, but the health benefits from making simple efforts like walking to class or taking the stairs will eventually add up!

  2. Yes, I would definitely agree walking is one of the simplest, yet most functional ways to stay healthy. I have taken part in the 10,000 step challenge here at SRU before. The 10,000 step challenge is a challenge in which you wear a pedometer and keep track of the total number of steps you take each day. Taking part in the 10,000 step challenge helped make me realize how important it is like you said to just get up and go for a 5 minute walk every 45min. I will definitely try to walk more in the future.

  3. It seems so simple to be active but so many people in this world have no motivation to put forth the effort. I didn't buy a parking pass for on-campus so I have to walk to class everyday. I don't have a ton of time to do cardio in the gym so that is where I get most of my cardio workout. I know I can do more cardio than just walking to class but that's not a bad start.

  4. I agree that walking is one of the easiest ways to increase physical activity levels. Things like parking in the last parking space and taking the steps are great lifestyle changes. It surprises me that many people do not know the recommended 10,000 steps per day and how far people are from reaching that number. I suggest using pedometers because they are an easy way to make yourself aware and accountable. They also provide motivation to challenge yourself to improve!

  5. I agree that walking is one of the easiest ways to increase physical activity. Just walking to class can be beneficial. People who take the bus where there class in a 2min walk cause they don't like to walk. If they did 3 times a week even it will be beneficial for them.
